March 9 – 30 in Studio 14B
In partnership with gallerist Lorraine Pilgrim, M|Arts is delighted to announce a pop-up residency by Kathy Mackey.
Kathy Mackey is a Gold Coast based photomedia artist whose work explores the complexity of space and light within art and architecture. She works across photography, painting and installation and is thrilled to be in residence in the Precinct during March.
During her 3 week residency – she will continue exploring the performative aspects of photography as a shared experience. This will involve building small sets in her studio and projecting images into these in a way that reminds us of the family slide nights when, inevitably, the projected images spill out onto furniture in the living room, creating a distorted relationship between of interior architecture and the “scene”. She will utilise photographs of the architecture of the Precinct and Murwillumbah urban area to make a new body of work – including paintings that further the spatial exploration within her photographs.
Keep an eye out for Kathy’s work in the pop-up gallery opposite Arna Baartz throughout March, or drop by the studio to see her work in progress.
