2 – 25 August
Opening night Friday 2 August 5pm – 7pm
Neil Matterson is a printmaker and illustrator based in Byron Bay. In The Coastal Female, Neil presents drypoints and etchings exploring real and surreal portrayals of the female form in a coastal context.
Neil states: “The Byron lighthouse, small boats (often used as a metaphor for the journey through life), flight (literal and emotional) and water feature throughout the exhibition with the female form represented as both confident and unassured.”
The small scale of the works in The Coastal Female allow the visitor to engage at close range to appreciate the artists’s concepts, design and line-work, in turn helping to cohere or question intimacies associated with the female form and the relationship to the coastal landscape.
Join the artist and M|Arts to celebrate opening night of The Coastal Female on Friday 2 August, 5pm – 7pm in the Long gallery, upstairs at M|Arts Precinct.
