Mugshot by Fintan Magee is the first of two commissioned works to be installed on the external walls of M|Arts in Proudfoots Lane.
The work delves into the unsolved Murwillumbah drill robbery, exploring Australia’s obsession with folklore and underdog figures. The work features two anonymous mug shots, with the faces blurred by a glass pattern so that the figures remain nameless, studying the mythology surrounding the incident and the unsolved nature of the crime.
Magee collaborated with local historians and community members, to identify an interesting, subversive historical figure and paint a portrait of them using his unique, surreal artico-bevelled glass technique.
Magee’s stunning murals can be found across the globe, sparking conversation and bringing beauty to the everyday. We are thrilled to see Fintan Magee’s amazing work is now on display in Murwillumbah’s very own Proudfoots lane, in the town we call home.
